Calculating Work Capacity for Server and Storage Products

Calculating Work Capacity for Server and Storage Products

Data center operators are being challenged to measure the efficiency and sustainability of their IT infrastructure. In the past, operators lacked industry consensus on methodologies to calculate IT equipment work capacities, a critical input to work per energy metrics. The Green Grid’s white paper IT work capacity metric V1 — a methodology provides a method to calculate a work capacity value for CPU-based servers. In this report, Uptime Intelligence proposes methodologies for calculating the work capacity of accelerated servers for AI and storage products. The work capacity outputs provide a path to calculate and report ICT indicators required by the EU’s updated Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and, when combined with utilization and power consumption information, work per energy values.
